Spring Blossoms in Pink: Sakura Jewelry Collection
The Japanese name for cherry blossoms is Sakura. In Japan, the blooming of cherry blossoms signifies the arrival of spring, bringing vitality and vigor. Every May, over 250 cherry blossom trees in Helsinki’s Roihuvuori Cherry Tree Park burst into full bloom, accompanied by the Hanami Festival, which translates as “Flower Viewing Festival”. This event attracts countless locals who gather under the cherry blossom trees for picnics with family and friends, singing, indulging in delicious food, and admiring the beauty of this floral paradise. Besides Finnish Vappu (Finnish name for May Day), it is another popular picnic event where people gather together.
Inspired by the beauty of cherry blossoms and motivated by customer feedback, we are creating a new Sakura-themed jewelry collection using recycled plastic bottles. The jewelry's petal shapes were modeled after the typical five-petal cherry flower and its characteristic pink color. Through cutting, heating, coloring and gradient making techniques, capturing the fleeting beauty of cherry blossoms in a timeless moment.
The form of Sakura may appear simple in form, yet subtle variations evoke distinct outlooks. The current shape is the final version refined through various adjustments based on our team and IG followers’ voting.
Another challenge was the coloring technique. Previously, our jewelry was only in a single color such as black or white. This time, we experimented with gradient pink shades, adopting the gradient fading nails technique. Firstly, we apply a layer of light pink as the base color. Once fully dried, use a sponge to blend the darker pink from the center of the Sakura petals outward. My team and I spent a considerable amount of time repeatedly experimenting and practicing to achieve the satisfactory results we present now.
The Sakura jewelry collection features nine distinctive jewelry pieces, including earrings, necklaces, bracelets, rings, hairpins, and brooches. Currently, the most popular are the Sakura Spring Drop earrings, necklaces and sakura bracelet.
The pink hues of the cherry flower complement light-colored outfits (such as pink or white) and dresses, welcoming the arrival of spring. Are you ready to embrace the spring in Finland again?
When styling the Sakura Moon Earrings, pair them with a light-colored floral dress to create a fresh and elegant look. The delicate design of the earrings complements the soft, feminine patterns of the dress. Opt for minimal makeup and simple hairstyles, such as loose waves or a low bun, to keep the focus on the earrings and the dress. This combination is perfect for spring or summer events, bringing a touch of nature's beauty to your outfit.
