As the founder and designer of Upcycle with Jing, I have always believed in giving new life to discarded materials. From the very beginning of our brand, we started hosting workshops to share the joy of upcycling. Over the years, this mission has remained close to my heart. These workshops are not just a way to connect with like-minded people but also a chance to inspire other individuals and industries to embrace creativity and sustainability.
The latest upcycled plastic bottle workshop – Sakura Earrings/Necklace Workshop – will be held on April 9, 2025, from 17:30 to 20:00 at Taito. In addition to basic cutting, heating, and coloring skills, participants will learn the unique gradient coloring technique for cherry blossom designs. Taito: A Place for Handmade Inspiration
This December, we partnered once again with Taito, Finland’s well-known craft association, to host a special DIY earrings workshop. Taito is a creative hub that organizes various crafting events and courses, attracting people passionate about handmade art. Each year, we hold two workshops with Taito, sharing the magic of upcycling and encouraging others to see waste materials in a new light.
Creating Unique Jewelry with Our Own Hands
This time, 8 participants joined us, each bringing their enthusiasm and curiosity. Many had already watched our DIY tutorials on our YouTube channel, “Upcycle with Jing,” and tried creating on their own. Their preparation and excitement made the workshop even more special.
During the session, we worked with plastic bottles, teaching techniques like cutting, shaping with heat, coloring, and assembling. It was incredible to see how everyone added their personal touch to create unique flower-shaped designs, which they turned into earrings or necklaces.
Some participants shared how they had struggled with the heating process at home and decided to join the workshop to learn. With one-on-one guidance, they mastered the skill and created a beautiful, one-of-a-kind Christmas gift for herself eventually.
Staying True to Our Mission
Since day one, our brand has been about more than just jewelry—it’s about promoting sustainability as a lifestyle. From small beginnings to hosting regular workshops with Taito, we’ve stayed true to our mission of sharing and teaching upcycling. Whether you’re a beginner or a seasoned DIY enthusiast, our workshops aim to spark creativity and show the potential of materials often overlooked.
Looking ahead, we plan to host more workshops, create new tutorials, and DIY boxes that combine sustainability and style. If you love DIY and care about the planet, follow us on Instagram and YouTube at “Upcycle with Jing.” Let’s take small steps together to make sustainability a way of life!
